About Us

Edmonton Public Schools is committed to providing safe and efficient transportation for students who depend on buses to get to school each day. To do this, Student Transportation works closely with schools to provide students and their parents with the services they need.

Student Transportation supports schools in their instructional focus by ensuring that our students are transported in a safe and timely manner and arrive ready to learn.

Edmonton Public Schools exceeds the guidelines set out by Alberta Education in the provision of its transportation services for students.

Edmonton Transit (ETS) is the preferred means of student transportation, but where Edmonton Transit to the designated school is not appropriate or available, Student Transportation arranges for yellow bus service. Subsidized ETS bus passes are sold to approximately 17,000 students every month.

Yellow bus service is provided to more than 8,500 students daily. This includes approximately 6,500 students who receive busing because they do not have a school in their neighborhood or choose to attend an alternative program, and nearly 2,300 Early Education to Grade 12 students who receive curb-service busing to District Centre special education programs.

Student Transportation provides advice and assistance related to:

  • Edmonton Transit services (ETS)
  • Yellow bus service, including curb service
  • Parent-provided transportation
  • Charter buses
  • Pedestrian safety, parking and roadways
  • School hours of operation
  • Program distribution
  • Bus pass sales and administration
  • Address integrity and rider information management

The Student Transportation department can be reached at 780-429-8585 between 7:00 am and 5:15 pm during each school day, with modified hours during the summer. The busiest times of the year are August, September and October, with an average of more than 800 contacts made daily through incoming and outgoing phone calls and e-mails from contract carriers and schools.
