First Riders

As the parent or guardian of a new school bus or ETS rider, we'd like to invite you and your child(ren) to attend the 6^th annual First Riders!

First Riders allows you and your child to become familiar with the bus riding experience in advance of the new school year through a unique, hands-on event. You will accompany your child through a series of outdoor stations that will build their confidence, provide important safety information and a ride on a school or ETS bus. The entire session will run approximately 45 minutes.

The program is focused on Kindergarten and Grade 1 students as well as Grade 7 students transitioning to ETS. We welcome any child who is taking the bus for the first time, or even those interested in a refresher!

First Riders is a free event, but you must pre-register by August 19. Please call the Edmonton Public Schools Student Transportation department at 780-429-8585 to secure your spot.

When you call to pre-register, you can choose either the afternoon or evening session, and you will need to provide the student name(s), school(s) and a parent/guardian contact phone number. Appointments will be scheduled to start every 30 minutes (e.g. 1:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m. etc.).

Afternoon: spots available between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
Evening: spots available between 6:00 and 8:30 p.m.

First Riders is hosted by Edmonton Public Schools, Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord and Edmonton Catholic Schools, together with our carriers: Edmonton Transit, First Student Canada, Golden Arrow, Southland and Service d'Autobus Fréchette Ltée.

Bus Driver Appreciation Day

May 18, 2010 marked our annual Bus Driver Appreciation Day. This day is set aside every year to recognize the safe and caring efforts our school bus drivers provide by transporting approximately 25,000 children to and from district schools each day. We'd like to express a sincere thank you to all school bus drivers for the challenging work they do each day getting our students to school safely, on time and ready to learn.
