Parent Provided Transportation
At the sole discretion of Edmonton Public Schools, parents may be provided with the option to receive payment in lieu of bus service when a reasonable level of service is not available for eligible early education, elementary, junior and senior high students with special education needs. Parent Provided transportation subsidies are intended to provide compensation for some of the costs incurred by parents in transporting their children to and from school.
Examples of eligible and ineligible forms of transportation are as follows:
Eligible: Parent driving, taxi, carpool
Ineligible: Bicycling, walking, Edmonton Transit
Edmonton Public Schools may not cover the entire cost of transportation incurred by the parent. When a parent agrees to provide transportation, they agree to release Edmonton Public Schools from any responsibilities and liabilities related to transportation arrangements. Only one payment for Parent Provided transportation will be made to a single household, transporting children to the same school, regardless of the number of students being transported. Payment for Parent Provided transportation is reimbursed only for the days that the student is transported to and from school. A student must be transported by the parent for a minimum of 20 school days in a pay period to be eligible for any reimbursement. Payment is made by mailing a cheque to the payee at the address identified on the agreement form.
Payees are reimbursed three times each school year for the following time periods:
- From the first day of school to December 31st
- From January 1st to March 31st
- From April 1st to the last day of school
Parent Provided Agreements are to be submitted by school staff to Student Transportation on or before the last Friday of November, February and May of every school year. Payment cheques are issued during the first week of February, the first week of May, and the last week of July. Payments will not be processed without Parent Provided Agreements being in place.
Attendance Summary Forms are delivered to schools two to three weeks prior to the end of the pay period. The school is responsible to:
- Complete the form including the number of attendance days.
- Have the Principal sign the completed forms.
- Fax the form to Student Transportation by the deadline date indicated.
Please contact Student Transportation staff for more information regarding Parent Provided Transportation eligibility.
